Project Objective

To develop accurate, fabrication-ready staircase models and executable construction drawings based on as-built site conditions captured through sketches, scanned images and handwritten measurements shared by the client. The objective was to ensure the dimensional accuracy, design feasibility and compliance with the manufacturer-specific standards for staircase components.

Scope of Work

01

Creation of a detailed 3D staircase model based on existing conditions

02

Preparation of architectural plans, elevations, sections and enlarged details

03

Development of fabrication-ready drawings for risers, treads, stringers and handrails

04

Standardizing a template for multiple staircase configurations across different sites

Client Input

The client provided

  • Scanned sketches of existing site conditions
  • Handwritten dimensional notes
  • Key component-level specifications for staircase fabrication
  • Basic design intent for tread, riser and railing configuration

Project Description

The client, a reputed staircase manufacturer in the USA, required precise architectural modeling and construction documentation for the multiple staircase systems. The input received consisted primarily of manually sketched site measurements with annotations indicating critical parameters. Given the uniqueness of each project site, our team conducted a comprehensive review of the provided data. A standardized modeling template was developed to accommodate various staircase geometries—straight-run, L-shaped, switchback and custom configurations—while covering essential elements such as:

• Treads & Risers
• Stringers (closed/open)
• Handrails & Guardrails
• Landing Conditions
• Support Systems and Fixing Details

Using the client’s hand sketches, our team transformed the information into accurate 3D models and fully coordinated architectural drawings. The deliverables included staircase plans, elevations, building sections and detailed enlarged views to support installation and fabrication. The final documentation ensured clarity in assembly, reduced coordination errors and met the manufacturer's precision requirements.

Our Client’s Challenges

  • Lack of formal architectural drawings; only rough sketches and notes provided
  • Variations in staircase dimensions across different project sites
  • Requirement for fabrication-ready details based on limited field data
  • Need for a standardized format to streamline documentation across multiple locations

Our Approach and Solution
